Hoka Resort, Nagoa Beach, Diu (indiawise's place)
Owner - Aditya Dogra (indiawise on indiamike.com)
-Location (city/area)- Nagoa Beach, about 9 K's west of Diu town. The hotel is set back from the beach with plenty of shade from hoka and other types of palm trees. Aditya planned the building of the hotel so that no trees were cut down. The rooms are clean and comfortable and most have attached shower and toilet. -Phone/fax/email/website- Phone 02875 253036 Email resorthoka@yahoo.com Website www.travelindia.com search for Diu under "islands" -rates for rooms- 14 rooms including 6 with A.C Price range from 250-1100 R's depending on type of room, duration of stay and season. -Amenities (hot shower, tv, etc)- no T.V but Aditya has a very varied music collection. Most rooms have attached toilet and shower. Wheelchair friendly. Likes/Dislikes- the general ambience of the place is relaxed and friendly. Aditya takes great trouble to make sure all his guests are equally welcome and can answer all your questions about Diu. The restaurant has a comprehensive menu, with naturally a bias towards fish dishes ( including fish and chips)! We can recommend the prawn, pomfret and tuna dishes. Cold Kingfisher beer is always in stock, as is Goan port wine and a selection of IMFL's. It's one of those places where you could easily end up staying longer than you expected to. As they say in Ireland, the "craic" (conversation) was good amongst the 6 nations represented there during our stay. Highly recommended, and in case you are thinking it, no, we were not on a special commission basis! Alan D, Caroline and Colin. |

Thanks for great info re. Resort Hoka :-)
My boyfriend and I are going to India in Feb./March and plan to spend the last week or so in Diu. That is, if it is as tranquil and romantic as it seems ;-) Is it, - in your opinion? I've read somewhere that Resort Hoka is located close to the main road. What about traffic/noice? Is there *hot* water in the shower? Flush toilet? Safety deposit box? How far away does "set back from the beach" mean? I've also read that Nagoa Beach is very popular and thus a bit crowded. Is that right? If yes, any other nice places in the vicinity with a bit more "privacy" that you would recommend? Is Diu nice for snorkling? We'd be SO happy for any info! Being first time India-travellers, planning from a desk in the Norwegian Woods sure is a challenge. A great one, though :-D Hope you're still having a fabulous time in Gujarat! - Line :-) |

I can answer a few of these questions since I am familiar with the area and will leave the rest up to Indiawise.

To Nagoa beach is about five minutes on foot, very easy walk. Nagoa beach can be crowded on the weekends with tourists coming down from Gujrat to spend the day. During the week it's pretty quiet though. Also in the opposite direction of Nagoa Beach is Gomptimata Beach which can be reached by walking or taking a bicycle. This is one of those beaches with nice waves and not a soul in sight. Occasionally kids will come up to take a look but besides that you pretty much have the whole beach to yourself. Quote:

spent a few days there very recently, excellent host, nice rooms with balcony. diu was a great break from the tourist hastles of rejesthan. deffinitley hire a moped and explore the island for a day to see caves, fort, villages etc...
in diu town the hotel next to ice cream shop (been craving the strawberry flavour since leaving) was good- tv, enclosed balcony, hot water for 150 rs/. didn't find any good meals in diu town but the tuna at hoka was great. |
