Help for Hotel/Guesthouse in Delhi
Hi
I am hoping for some advice. I arrive in Delhi later this year at about 3am, and am starting to get a bit nervous. After reading tales on here and at Lonely Planet of all the scammers, immigration bribes etc. I am wanting to get some accomodation sorted out.
What I need is a nice guesthouse/hotel in Delhi. I am not sure which area as it will be my first trip there, so not somewhere too overpowering (I dont think I could take that at 3am). Somewhere that is reasonably priced, has a website I can check out and will arrange an airport pickup (dont ask much do I). I have searched around the internet and seen hundreds of places but need a personal reccomnebdation. It does need to fit the above criteria though, if possible.
Thanks in advance

It'd help if you explain what you mean by not too overpowering and what's reasonably priced for you.
Also, look up the Hotel listings on IndiaMike.

Ok too overpowering meaning I want somewhere thats close to the action, but not right in the midle of it all. A reasonably priced room would be about 300-400 INR per night. I did check out one, and was going to book online, but they asked for my passport number. Is this normal?
I still recomend Anoop's. Sure it's in the middle of the action, but hey, that's half the fun! A decent room w/bath is 250rps. AC room is 400 or so. I posted a picture of my last room there in my photo gallery.
The scary part is the ride from the airport. I believe Anoop's may now have airport pickup. Otherwise, spring for a pick up from Namaste India Tours who post to this forum.

Great, thanks for the advice.
Do you know what their website address is?? And just one further question. Is it normal for a guest house to ask for your passport number when making a reservation?

Take a look at the room in Anoops
in Sadhu's photo gallery then have a look at the rooms in the MPGH I think they are an extra 200IR which is not too much more there is a vast differrence in the rooms also the area is much much more quiter at nights...if you want to sleep,
Phara Ganj is great we loved it but preferred not to stay there for accomodation...everyone to their own tastes I guess you have to be the judge !!!

Try Bhagar Inn in Delhi.
It is a home stay, but they do not provide food.
U can get the ph. number and contact them.

No idea but they normally take down your passport number when checking in so it would seem to be standard procedure. One imagines they file it and it goes down somewhere in the Kafkaesque labyrinths of Indian bureaucracy.I can't think of anything much anyone could do with your passport number so no reason to fret maybe?
Thanks everyone.
I was a bit paranoid about giving my passport number but then I guess people cannot do much with it can they?
I have decided to go with the majority and have chose the Master Guest House
