Check the "Hotel Listings" section of this forum. It has recommendations on Mumbai hotels.

Tornado989 has chosen a good area for you to stay in; although Colaba seems to be the centre of the cheap hotels in Mumbai, it's quite a walk from the railway stations you'd most likely to be going to and from. The VST area seems to me to be ideal.

The hotel he recommended isn't known to me, so I checked the website link; I saw only share bath. If you want your own bath/shower, and a western toilet, and air conditioning, try the Benazeer Hotel, also near Victoria Station. Our double room -- plain and simple but everything worked and we had a really nice outlook into a quiet square) cost us 950 rupees a night, not a cheap price, but pretty good for expensive Mumbai. Lyndie, who writes often for this forum, got the Lawrence for 500 rupees, and was very pleased. Don't know if this one has ensuites, however.

If you're interested in the Benazeer, write back and I'll give you their email address.
