Hampi and Badami

Footprint and LP Guides give addresses for places to stay galore, but I am interested in some personal suggestions too. Anyone who can advise me on a congenial guest house or small hotel in Hampi and/or Badami?

Did you manage to get to hampi? Where did you stay? I'm going there next week and was looking for suggestions to stay. The buesthouses in the bazaar sound very nice, but have not been able to get specific names. So any leads will be appreciated.

Hi ,

Me and my friends will be there in Hampi from Jan 26 - Jan 29. Our tickets are booked.

Any info on these would be useful.

Accomodation - Names of Hotels/lodges/touristhomes which we have to check first.

Food - Names of good eateries

Which would be the best way to go about the place - Cycle ? or by Walk

How much time it would take to see around Hampi alone ?

I am thinking that I should cover Badami , Pattadakkal, Aihole separately in another trip. what are your views ?

we stayed at rocky's guesthouse at the end of december and we felt very comfortable there. you get hot water, mozzie net, a bottom sheet and a blanket. Good mattresses too. So many more places have opened compared to what the guides say. Best thing would be to arrive not to late in the day, and make your own way to the guesthouses, exploring in leisure till you find something that suits you. The hampi experience is so lovely!

Dear Dan37..thanks for your input. Just looked through 900+ hotel posts to get the info..and then saw your message

I like your method faber, but am not comfortable to take a chance as its high season just now. Are any recommendations you can make? I have not found any new lodges or guest houses online..so please do share any new names or numbers that you might have.

Megarajan, I hear that if you really are keen on seeing all of hampi you need weeks. But at the very least 'beach' was suggesting 4 days. Going by your photoblog I'm sure you will need 4 days . Do read and maybe take a copy of 'Beach's- writeup in hampi'.
Most sites I have come across suggest Hampi is best covered on foot, as not all paths are accesible on cycle. Still I might choose the cycle

Hampi experince was one of the best in India for me. However it does not apply to hotels - in Hampi they are very basic and overpriced (from 500 Rs onward for spartan cell), the choice is much better in Virupadadi Gaddi (sorry if the name is wrong), on opposite side of the river. I think the best place to stay is Lakshmi cottages, but to eat - is the place a litle further by the road, I don't remember the name only (you can find it in any guide book).
People of Hampi are the best in India and are happy if you amke a foto of them. Also travellers are very relaxed and ready to chat, almost everybody. So strange comparing to other touristic places.

Thanks for the inputs. I have taken a printout of beach's description of hampi.
