Hello,
I go firstime to India (feb.-march 06). I have 3 questions. Is in India the prize for the room the same ( no different between 1 or 2 person stay at the room)? How much I have to spend for night in guesthouses or budgethotels? Can I change € in India or maybe it is better to bring $?
Thanks for help

1. I think there is not a rule .You can ask the manager for a smaller price for single occupation. small hotels are flexible.
2. mine were around rs250 for a reasonable double room with attached bathroom. You can find cheaper. Some cities, like Bombay for example, are much more expansive.
3. doesn't really matter. euro or us dollars are in the same ratio in India. however I've seen you can get some ( insignificant ) advantage by using USD when paying some entrance tickets ( 5 USD instead of RS250 ), but this is rare situation. I see you are from Deutschland. why to change the euros in usd and then usd in RS ?

Yes, that's right. For all the entrance tickets at ASI sites where they charge Rs250 (or Rs100) it is preferable to pay USD5 (or USD2) instead as it is cheaper but if you are coming with Euros then do not convert to USD just for this purpose as you will still be paying the commission for the exchange and that will almost equal the savings otherwise.
Rooms in most cities can be had for Rs150 to 350 depending on the type of place and facilities offered. These are generally the small guesthouse types and not really good hotels but sometimes you could get lucky too and get a nice room for the same prices too. Singles are usually not available in many places or they charge the double room charge for single rooms too. But remember you can always bargain and try to get cheaper prices for any room you are booking in India. Hope this helps. Have a nice trip to India and enjoy your travels here.

Aadil.
