Five Month Accommodation
Five Month Accommodation
Hello,
I am looking for a min 3 bed house to rent in south India for 5 months. From the end Sep through to the end of Feb, close to the beach would be lovely!
It would be for myself & my four boys aged 12,10,7 & 6. Obviously we are looking for a considerable discount due to the length of time we will b staying. Also this is something we will be doing every year & would like 2 book the same place each year. We would prefer non tourst areas!
So if you are able to or know of anyone who can provide us with good cheap accommodation please let me know.
Thank-you

OFF TOPIC BUT HOW DO YOU OBTAIN A VISA FOR MORE THEN 3 MONTHS,
LAST YEAR, AS MANY OTHER TRAVELERS I WAS ABLE TO HAVE JUST 3 MONTH VISA
PLANNING AGAIN FOR NEXT YEAR (my 8th) I WOULD LIKE TO STAY FOR 5 MONTHS.

Um, typing in capitals only is considered SHOUTING on the web, please don't do that. The duration of Indian tourist visas available to you just depends primarily on your nationality, then secondly it could get further influenced by whether you apply for it at home or abroad (as in in the latter case, you may receive a shorter one by default than you might at home).
So it's quite possible it's different for Brits than for the French. Nothing to do about it. You'll just have to go by your applicable embassy or visa services' stipulations; that is what will apply to you. If three months is all you can get, then three months it is. And remember it is valid from date of issue, right, not from date of entry into the country.

gosh! sorry, totally forgot about caps on web. I was so excited to read about a 5 month India stay. I am American, living in France, perhaps that is the problem!
I don't want to travel to Nepal for a month then return to India.

It no doubt is; to receive just 3 (or something) when applying not in your home country is commonly reported on. (It seems us Dutch now receive no more than 3 anyway, so even when applying at home. No idea how it is for the French.)You US guys (gals) are eligible for a 10-year Indian tourist visa, always valid for no more than a 180-day stay at a time, right, and today with the requirement to stay out for two months between such visits (your one month is incorrect, or outdated); however you can only apply for this at home. Could be worth it for your needs, you'd think.

Visas....;how unfortunate for all of us who appreciate all of what India offers in rich experiences to the traveller
Quote:
Yes; ask it of the many Indians et al. though who would like to witness the rich experiences of the West without too much ado. (We do all realize I hope how that may just be cost-wise quite prohibitive to the average such visitor, right? Any visa nightmares indeed quite apart. And a nightmare it indeed tends to be, whereas visiting India to the average foreigner is really quite straightforward. Again: You are one of the only nationalities to be eligible for such a long Indian tourist visa, and probably the only for quite as long, so do count your blessings.)Anyways,
, and shall we now give the thread back to the original poster, where it belonged?:

Whats your budget and will you need schooling for your kids? As you will realise it's illegal in many countries to remove your kids from education for such a long time every year.
And you make no mention of the dad, (sorry if I sound like I'm raining on your parade, not my intention but these are real considerations) you'll need his permission to do this with the kids

I'm going to home educate them while we're away. The school av given permission as long as I do this. No their dad wont b very happy, but I dnt need his permission he does'nt av parental responsibility 4 them as we wern't married. I will make sure they can skype often & will suggest 2 him 2 cum during the middle of our stay 4 a couple of wks, this is just so they all keep contact wiv each other.

Hi Michelle, a warm welcome to Indiamike to you and the gang! At the risk of being the (other) "grammar police" officer
on this thread, please do not use SMS (web abbreviations) like 'b' for be and '2' for to and '4' for for, as IM is primarily an English language site but many different people of all nationalities come on, so spelling out all your words is important here.
Do have a very good look around the site, especially the visa threads, there are many, and be sure you have all the rules & regulations covered and your planning done properly before you head over to India. Mach is right, one of the most important things to consider is that visas are only good for the date they are issued, not for the date of entry into India, so best to have your visas in hand around the same time as your tickets are purchased. In other words, your stay may be only two and a half months instead of 3, as long as you are out of India by the expiration date on the visa.
This is going to be a fabulous experience for your all, especially for your boys, as India is so many worlds all in one! Hope your trip is grand!

The reason I asked was, I was thinking there is a school for young kids in Colomb south Goa, and Patnem is a very nice place to be and you'll possibly find a house there too. There are many many places to rent in the area and it's on the beach..Just can't think of a three bedroom 0ne but there may be something I haven't noticed
South Goa is equally as beautiful and laid back as Kerala, don't believe all the stories you hear. It's quite simply beautiful

The father thing you should check out just to be sure
For Minor Child (Under 16 Years of age) from VFS global
A copy of the child’s birth certificate showing both the parents names.
Consent letter addressed to the HCI, London OR its respective consulates signed by both the parents.
Photocopy of Parent’s passports along with the copy of their current Indian Visa, if already holding one. If parents are Indian citizens, copy of the resident status in the UK would be required.
In case of Divorce, Child Custody Letter from court in respect of the child is required.
In case of Single Parent, Solicitor’s Letter and Child Benefit letter will be required.
