First Time in India - Info on Hotels in Mumbai
Hi fellow travellers,
Myself and my boyfriend are travelling to Inida on the 28th December. We need to book a room for a couple of nights in Mumbai before heading south to Goa. Anyone know of any good hotels, relatively cheap but comfortable and close to other travellers? Any info greatly appreciated, Thanks |

There is a shortage of good hotel rooms in Mumbai especially during the peak season and normally around Christmas & New Years time. There are a lot of hotels in the Colaba / Fort / CST area of South Mumbai. The prices are about Rs500 to Rs2000 depending on the type of hotel and room available. Simple rooms cost much less but are always difficult to find as they are very few in comparison to the regular rooms. The middle range of around Rs750 to 1500 should be your best bet for cheap accomodation though you could still find places for much less but I would not recommend you stay there as they are mostly rundown places in shady areas where it is not safe to stay. Also cheap rooms are not available on the internet so you would have to either call them up or just land up at the hotel and find out if they have vacancies. Usually taxi drivers in the area would know which ones are free if you take the taxi from the main train station like CST. But then they get their commissions as well so you may not get the best deals or places to stay.
Some of the good hotels in the price range of about Rs1500 to 2000 and bookable on the internet are Residency Hotel (www.residencyhotel.com), Railway Hotel (www.hotelrailway.com), Shelleys Hotel (www.shelleyshotel.com). Hope this helps. Cheers, Aadil.

Hey Deisegirl
I am also arriving on the 28th, from London, and we booked rooms about a month ago, and I know our hotel (Shangri-la) is fully booked, so if I were you, I would try to book a room, before arriving. Wish you a great trip & all the best! /T |
