Dirty Bed

Have anyone solution to dirty bed problem in India. Even mid prized hotels are not comparable to Days-INN type cleanlyness. Same goes for towels. I have resigned to using my own.

I've encountered this but mainly in low end guest houses that are off the * rating chart. If it appears there aren't any bed bugs resident, I usually just use a spare lunghi as a make shift sheet. Some people carry a thin sleeping bag made from a couple sheets stitched together for this purpose.

Funny story
Once I was visiting a collegetown in Maharashtra (Loni, bus reaches at 3am from Mumbai. I and my brother-in-law had to find a resting place till 8 AM when college opens. There was but only 1 choice in Loni, no other place to wait or sit. So we rented this place. And I put newpaper on bed and sat on it with eyes closed for 4 hours so I did not have to look at the room. My brother in law slept soundly. I refused all offers of chai and got out as soon as possible.

OK mangrove blow into the paper bag.............breath in breath out

It's the tropics and there are bugs but don't imagine infestations, you might see the odd cockrack or spider but that's it.
Nothing to get too excited about and it's pretty much unavoidable, whichever class of hotel you stay in may have a bug or two. Like I say it's not a plague though, just the odd stray bug!!

I have a strange relationship with insects, I've taken plenty of entomology courses because they fascinate me - but at the same time I am not used to the tropical ones and they well, get my attention to say the least. I've dealt with 2 inch long cockroaches in my bedroom in South Africa for 3 months so I think I'll survive. Though it was hard to sleep for the first bit! I don't particularly like millipedes either. Have not encountered bed bugs as of yet (and I hope I won't...)

I guess I was thinking by the tone people take when they refer to insects in India - there seem to be plenty. Like lots of cockroaches for instance. I'm just curious and now happy that you say it's just a few here and there

ive simply resigned myself to the fact that its all dirty (india)and its on my skin not in my body - i can wash my skin. i dont seem to get flea/bedbug bites - luckily.

india does not need be as dirty as it is. same money spent in se asia -us3 even can net a reasonably clean room even these days depending on locale.

i have for donkeys years carried my own (burmese) longyi cum towel.

i had a rat camped out in a dive in manali. did not get much sleep...

Ooow dunno if I would be so keen about a scorpion. How did you deal with that one?

The other ones sound very cool (minus cockroaches and spiders). How big were those cockroaches and spiders?

I used to have a couple of stick insects as pets, until they became more than I could handle. The buggers kept multiplying like mad and were at it for days on end. Had to give them to a friend at the university.

I've never seen leaf insects - that would be awesome. Criquets are always welcome too!

The spider in Mcleodganj was a corker!! How did I deal with it easy peasy I got the wife to get rid of it

Cockraches are about an inch and a half and they can fly bye the way!!

The scorpion had no chance against a size 11 walking boot I'm afraid

What do you mean by a 'corker'? Meaning quite large? I've actually heard that spiders in the hills are much larger and scorpions common. I've heard this about Mussoorie in particular.

Oh they fly, interesting! The ones in South Africa just aimlessly crawled around. This adds a whole new dimension. Do they avoid light?

Lucky that you had boots - I will likely only have sandals and won't be able to crush it I don't think. Ah the sound of the exoskeleton crushing! Ewww.

Nice, your wife dealing with spiders for you! Did she just remove it and put it outdoors?
