Delhi Hotel

my first attempt so bear with me.
We arrive in Delhi tomorrow night and are looking for a clean hotel in the Paharganj area in the US$10 price range for a couple of nights. We then meet up with friends from London who want something a bit more flasher so also suggestions in the US$ 40 - 60 price range.
Also what should a taxi from International Airport cost ?
Thanks in advance and look forward to your advice/help

just ask at the tourist travel desk in the airport for answers to both questions. You can arrange a fixed rate taxi from there, but I dunno how much these days. $10-20??? just a guess

no end of hotels in that $40-60 range can be had online- google it.

no end of hotels in Paharganj in the $10-20 range, not online, though. Seems as tho one is as good or bad as the other. Inspect first- no matter what price range!

hi Dodge, I'm flying to India on friday night and my approach seems not bad:
"Hotel Star Paradise" in Paharganj, emails with them are trust, they pick us up frm Airport late night for Rs. 450,-

They own more hotels in this area, "Paradise" is a new one , a/c dbl. room for Rs. 600,-

Star Group

Check this for more expensive rooms:
Gold Regency

Maybe we stay at the same hotel, we are a couple from Austria...
Anyway, have a great time in India !!!

<<suggestions in the US$ 40 - 60 price>>

Oberoi Maidens in the old Civil Lines is a historic (heritage) hotel in this price range (that is the price for low season which is till the end of September). About US$55 should get you a a/c twin room with ensuite (this price is not per person, it's for the room) with breakfast. Any genuinely competent agent should be able to book the room for you. If you don't like heritage, you may not like this hotel (shades of women and men who play bridge might be haunting the place...)

I haven't stayed there but I did book (and will have to cancel for my dates unfortunately...I like old places and it would have been nice to stay in this one before it gets turned into a super luxury high tower over priced concrete hotel set in a giant carpark with models and politicians' sons sunbathing by the pool).

Here's the official hotel site - (there is a summer special advertised but that's only for Indian residents, email the hotel for a summer rate in US dollars for non-residents, if it's more than the price I mentioned for a room, try an excellent and reputable travel agent to book the room, sometimes agents get the room cheaper than the hotel offer price) -
