Thumbs up delhi hotel recommendations

Hi all. I'm a single female (mid-twenties) traveller, going to Delhi and staying there for 3 nights, one of which would be my check in "night" at 12:50 am. I've seen a lot of names of hotels and places to stay, but it's really overwhelming. To help narrow it down, I'm wondering where your favorite places to stay (or stay away from) are. My budget is ~800-2000 Rs... would prefer not to spend a ton of money but would like a "nicer" place over a dive; will go for a guest house or hotel, but safety is of concern as I'm alone. First time in India, but not new to travelling; not much of a partier, but more interested in the cultural side of India. Can y'all help me out? Thx so much!

Have you checked the "Hotel Listings" section of this forum? It has some great recommendations for hotels in Delhi.

Yeah, I've looked at the listings. Part of it is, I think, that I just got sensory overload on all the names. But mostly, many of them just give some names, not people's favorites and what they're actually like (vs how the hotel describes themself, which can actually be quite different). Hopefully that makes sense...

I like the YMCA on Jai Singh Road. I paid Rs300-350 for a private A/C room with private bath. It is not five star and it's not in the heart of the tourist region, but it's within a rickshaw ride of wherever you want to go. It's not a dive and was safe, clean, and quiet, and the restaurant is pleasant and has pretty good food.

http://www.smyleinn.com/ is a good place. spend the US$12 on the one way transfer, after a freakin' long journey, you'll realize pricing out cabs is the last thing you want to do. when do you plan on hitting up delhi?

Near the airport?

Hey trusty forum-posters. I am in a similar situation - solo female arriving into Delhi late at night, and flying out again the next morning. Can anyone recommend a place to stay near the airport? Sorry, it's difficult to search the hotel listings by area...

Where's the good old Hey guys I'm off to Asia for a week, any good recommendations and what toothpaste do I use and at what time precisely and if not why so?

Hello,
We'll be 2 girls arriving on the 4/23, about the same hour as you. We going to stay at http://www.master-guesthouse.com/ as I've read very good feedback here as well. It's apparently a favourite of many.
We'll also stay the night after, so maybe we get to see each other

Hey Salicornia. Yeah, it sounds like that's a popular place... I tried to get reservations there also, but they're booked. Oh well... maybe we'll still run into each other.
