Delhi hotel-- Metropolitan Nikko or The Grand New Delhi?

I'm looking for a hotel in Delhi for a couple nights. I see on sites like expedia, travelocity and orbitz that the following are the highest rated hotels in my price range (less than $150 per night):

Metropolitan Nikko
The Grand New Delhi
Ambassador Hotel

Does anyone have a recommendation about which one is the best? I've never been to India before so I know basically nothing. I looked at the hotel listings, but they just give basic information about the hotels, not recommendations. Are there other hotels people would recommend?

I'd go for Nikko or Ambassodor.
No doubt Grand is good but its too far from the city center (but near to airport). You'll endup spending ~ US$50 each time want to come to Connought place etc.

Maidens?

How about the Maidens? Has anyone stayed there?

Maidens is a decent hotel - old colonial style building, but quite out of the way. It is located just north of the older parts of the city. It used to be called the Oberoi Maidens (not sure if it is still managed by the Oberoi group). It's quite far from the city centre and nearly 30 km from the airport. Not the kind of place where you can just step out for a walk in the evening or grab a meal. There is nothing close-by and a lot of construction activity going on in that area for the upcoming Delhi Metro. I would go by Vinay's choice - Nikko or Ambassador, both are conveniently located.

Thumbs up I recommend Nikko

Hi
I'm from Delhi and have visited almost every hotel here. I recommend Nikko for several reasons, its neat and clean which i find very important, staff there is very friendly and don't forget to visit their restaurant "Chutney".. food is yumm there. And if you love to try Japanese delicacies then thats the right place for you. In all its value for money.
And its right in the middle of the city so commuting is very easy.

Both Nikko and Grand are quite allright, Grand being more popular. But as mentioned by others Nikko is more convenient in terms of location. I would rate Ambassador one notch lower. Oberoi Maidens is just too far off from everything. I recently had a business associate from the UK staying there and it was so inconvenient just to get him to my office in South Delhi everyday.

How far in distance is Manju Ka Tilla from all the hustle and bustle of Delhi, walking distance? I don't mind a good walk, am thinking of staying at Wongdhen House, anyone heard of it?

The GRand is a gorgeous Property, one of my favvorites, but located far south in Vasant KUNJ. It would be a good choice if u need to be near the airport, or depending on what are your needs in Delhi.

The Grand has wonderful diverse resturants and a great health club/spa! And the rooms are superb, some of the best in Delhi. I have stgayed here quite a few times, and realy lux! And absolutely gorgeous bathrooms, Huge!!! Also, lovely pool area!

However, if u are sightseeing, i wld say best to stay more central. The NIkko is a good central five star choice, but another hotel u may consider, in about the same price point is the Intercontinental on Barakanamba road, right on the cusp of Connaught Place. I prefer the Intercontinental that to the Nikko on atmosphere and overall feeling. The Intercontinental has Excellent resturants too!

I have stayed at all the above properties, so feel free to drop me a line with quesitons, etc..

happy travels, namaste.
