Clueless Guides
We've all run across them- gross errors in guidebooks; tourguides who couldn't find the TaJ if it had a bullseye on it; complete gibberish in a locally printed pamphlet about a site; knowitalls who have spent countless hours perfecting their misconceptions (wait, lemme check the mirror . . .)
One of my faves . . . a LP TV episode that went to Madurai but barely MENTIONED the Meenakshi temple, instead whining that they couldn't get a hotel, and left the same evening as they arrived!!! What's your tale?

On my first trip to Gangotri, I hired a "high-altitude expert" guide to show me the way to Tapovan and Nandanvan so I could do some exploring in the area. Not only did he not know the way once we got past the well-trodden path to Gaumukh, but he also got altitude sickness, and I had to half-carry him down to Bhojbasa to recover.
