Chennai - Long term Housing?
A female friend of mine will be doing research in Chennai for 2 months starting March 15th and was wondering about affordable long term housing. Since she is doing volunteer research, affordable means $200 USD a month or less. A/C is probably a must, right? Is this realistic or not?
If anyone has any suggestions about hotels, long term housing, or knows of a family who is willing to rent a room, please let me know. Thanks for your help. Peace |

If you could let me know if she needs to be in/near any particular area in Chennai I could suggest further. But yeah $200 with a/c is not at all a problem in Chennai, what is difficult is getting quality independant accomodation for 2 months only. I could be of better help if you could let me know if she needs to live near some institution related to her research or not.

Hey, thanks for your responses. She is working in the South of Chennai. I believe the area or address is Taramani. But she is willing to live north of that if there is a better area of town to live in. Any tips would help a lot.
Thanks |

With 200usd/month you can get a decent place to stay in chennai. There is a YWCA and many working women’s hostels at Chennai. At Adayar there is a ministry run International Youth Hostel. I’m not sure if they give it for long stay. But it is a nice and safe place. Alternatively put an ad at www.freeads.co.in and see the result. Quote only 100usd/month only to start with. Pay only after you have reached there and personally satisfied (location, safety, facilities,..etc ).
At least something to scratch on .... goodluck!! |
