"cheap" hotel in Mumbai

Hi All
I am arriving by train in Mumbai on Wed 26 Oct in the morning and need a nice, cheap place to stay in Mumbai. Its my first time in Mumbai and I know that it is hard to find a good place to stay without looking all over the place or paying with some body part . I think the Chaluba area is where I'll start. I plan to stay only a few days.

Any tips or advice will be most appreciated. I'll check here on arrival before proceeding.

BTW-I'm travelling with my bicycle, so flights of stairs are out

Thanks
cosmo

Shelley's Hotel is where I'll be...

It's in the Colaba area....I haven't been there yet, but the reviews were okay. I searched a few different places and the location/price seem to be good.

Good luck.

Hi Cosmo
Suggest that you also look up 'Hotel Listings' for Mumbai under Maharastra (top left of IM home page). Plenty of information on hotels there.

I'm also booked in to Shelleys for my November visit - havent been there yet but the place had good reviews and is reasonable. We've booked a double deluxe sea-facing room for 1,935 Rs including tax. They were also happy to receive and hold our rail tickets booked over the net.

Thanks IM'ers, I found a place

Thanks for your graet response. I checked the places, but found something cheaper. As I am on an indefinite travel plan, keeping those Rupees in hand is tricky but necessary, I found something cheaper.

If you are interested, here is my journal of my bicycle tour around India since February, now over 4500km. (I've had this look before on the Indian roads!!!)

I am staying at the Hotel Outram(22094937), near Sterling Cinema in the Fort area. The double room(with HARD beds) and shared bath is 418Rs/day. It has private baths and a/c upstairs for 1200Rs. The cheaper rooms are on the ground floor(making the cycle easy to keep in the room) and have no windows, but is quiet. I am only staying in Mumbai for 2 days so it will be fine for a short stay.

I can see that this post is after the date of when you arrived, but thought it could be interesting with more posts on "cheap hotels in Mumbai".

I always stay at Shangri-la, close to the airport, the staff is nice, it´s fairly clean, but most of all, with Mumbai measures it´s cheap, about Rs 572 for a double with attatched bath, phonenumber can be found in LP.

Good luck
:-) T
