camping in india???

My first trip to India and I leave in two days!! yaay!

One thing before I go though....is it a crazy idea or could it be quite handy/ fun to bring a tent for me and my friend to occasionally sleep in??

Where will you use it? Cities and towns, its of no use and certainly involves a security risk. Trekking it may be handy if you don't mind looking and feeling like a coolie lugging so much junk..

This depends on your motivation. If you're simply trying to save money, it probably isn't worth it since there are plenty of really cheap places to stay in India and you'd have to contend with carrying a tent and sleeping bags around. If you really love to camp and are planning a mostly rural/mountainous journey, then it might be practical. As #2 has mentioned, camping in or around a city isn't a good idea.
