Camping in India

This is my first post on IndiaMike and I am full of questions because I am headed to India for about a month in April; but to start things off;

We are thinking of doing some camping on the west coast and hopefully in Northern India as well (ladkha)

Should we bring any equipment with us (tents, mattresses) or will it be easier to either rent/buy it there if that is at all possible?

If anyone has done this before or has information please let me know.

No need to carry tents etc. You can either rent it if you are planning to trek on your own especially at popular trekking places like Himachal and Ladakh. If you are going through a company then they will provide you everything you would need.
Just take your trekking shoes along.

I'm afraid that I've got no advice to give you, not having yet been to India, unless you want general camping advice (I'm guessing if you're prepared to go camping in a foreign country you must already be fairly experienced.)
Be sure to post how it goes though, I'll hopefully soon be camping across India as well, and I'd love to hear anothers experiences
