Budget Hotel-Aurangabad, Manmad, The Blue House in Jodhpur Can anyone recommend a budget hotel in these places that is quiet and my husband and I can get sleep? Also do you know the price for a double, and the phone number, address, email address, website? I've heard the Blue House in Jodhpur is good but have no details on it! Anyone have those?

| In my opinion Manmad is no place to make a night halt. Avoid ! You'd be far better off halting at Nashik, instead.

I think Aurangabad is quite underrated. It's a nice little Indian town with lots to see. Hotels--just avoid the ones near the train station, if you want peace and quiet. This where the budget hotels tend to cluster, though. I stayed at the Ashok a few years ago, well away from the station and inside its own little compond. It's run by the state tourist board and was well managed--pretty nice overall. I think I paid about $40 per night, which is not unreasonable in India, if you really want peace and quiet. As I recall, it seemed there were new hotels mushrooming all over the place. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a place that suits your needs and your budget.

Blackeye re Manmad I stayed for a few months in a bungalow beside Manmad Junction around 1946-47 and I do not remember seeing any houses of ill repute at that time . But I did see a railway repair shed which had a beautiful upright twin cyl steam engine providing the power . It may still be there . Also near Manmad on the narrow gauge railway there was a small temple on a hilltop (see att pics ) .If anyone recognises the place I would like to know more about it . During my stay in India I travelled extensively on the rail network and enjoyed the experience . Best wishes to all .

The Blue House is good, but be aware I think it's now called "Joshi's" blue house - the owner was forced to change name as the other is owned by a wealthy Brahmin who wanted exclusivity. The place is well tucked away so get a rickshaw there, the prices are reasonable and they're agood bunch. I'd definitely recommend it. There are lot's of staircases on the steep side though, but great views from the terrave and good food. I was there a year ago and it was a good find. Good luck!
