Hi again. I'm going to India for a few months, and since it's my first time, I'm a little disoriented on costs. (I know I asked about this in my last thread too, but I asked two questions in the same thread, and I want to focus on this question, now that I got my other question answered).
I'm going to India for a while. I want to go to: New Delhi (Not for long) Jaipur Pushkar Udaipur Jodhpur Agra (Not that important, but I guess it's on the way to Varanasi) Varanasi And then up north: Haridwar Risikesh Leh Ladakh I don't care how long it takes, but I imagine from 3-6 months. Or am I completely wrong? Would this take much longer? Or is it too much? I really need to get the feel of every city before I move on. I also want to go to Nepal, especially Katmandu & Bhaktapur. But that may be at another time. But for a mid-range solo traveller, what kind of budget should I operate with. What do you think would be the total with all this travelling and lodging? (I've got 1600,- Euros (105177,- rs as of now. How long for how long will that take me? Thank you again, dear IndiaMikers. |

It really depends on your comfort level. I'm old enough to be your grandmother, and five years ago, I spent around $12/day when I was in smaller cities and towns. (The big cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata) are very expensive -- or you get a lot less for your money!) That included hotels, meals, cigarettes, trains, a little bit of shopping ... and possibly this year, the same things might cost me $15/day or more.
There are people who would take a month to see all they wanted to of the destinations you choose, others who would take 3-6 months. It's all up to you! If you're ocmfortable in a place, stay until you get bored with it, then move on.

All those places are surely possible in 3-6 months. And many more if you choose. 1600 euros can last you almost 6 months if you live frugally. Eat vegitarian, cheap hotels, buses or lower class train travel, etc. I would get a 6 month ticket with an open return and when your moneys almost gone, go back. Or buy a set return ticket and pay the usually $100-150 us. to change it.
