booking on-line a guesthouse in Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj

Hi,

In almost 3 weeks me and my boyfriend are going to India for a month.
Planning: Delhi - Amritsar - Dharamsala - Manali - Leh - trekking and climbing (Stok Kangri/Kang Yatze) - fly back to Delhi.
I have heard that it is already quite busy in Dharamsala for the birthday of the Dalai Lama (6th july). We will be in Dharamsala around 25 th june and will stay there a few days.
Has anyone an e-mail address of a guesthouse/hostel in Dharamsala or McLeod Ganj so that we can book our accommodation already on-line?
Any good guesthouse/hostel suggestions for Amritsar and Manali is also welcome.

Thanks,

Oh Dear,McLeodGanj is quite busy on Dalai Lamas Birthday indeed!Really nice though! I dont think that u will face any problem finding a room though!I was there last year!I arrived on the 5th of July!To be honest Is just that probably u wont be able to find accomodation in any guesthouse u fancy...i.e:Om guesthouse with its great view on the valley it was full!
u can contact them at:
Om Hotel, Narojee Road, McLeod Ganj 176219. emailmhotel@hotmail.com!
While in Manali I went straight to look for room either in Vashicht or Old Manali! Really cheap and very friendly one was the Manu guesthouse! Cant find the card and the contacts .If at Old Manali take the path opposite the tourist shiva moon cafe that leads you up in a bunch of nice guesthouses! I wish I had more contacts..if I found them I ll post them! Hope u njoy your time in Himachal! Wonderfull place especially during monsoon time!
Namaste

Usually you hear "Mcleod is all filled up" but I agree with Iasis that you should have no problem finding a room. Some of the the more pricier places are usually booked up with tours though.

Depends on your budget and what kind of room you want to find.

Online booking is pretty much non-existent and phoning ahead is often times a better alternative, though even that is hit or miss. Most hotels know how to take a reservation but holding the room is another story.

Mcleod is small and nothing is more than five minutes from the bus stand if that helps any.

In Manali, if you have the money I liked Hotel Mayflower which is a mid priced hotel but worth every penny (the phone number in that link has probably changed though).

Cheers

try seven hills guest house. its just up the mcleod-tipa road. run by nice chaps. there used to be a cranky south korean chap who used to run a korean restaurant there [imagine korean food in mcleod] but i suppose he must have moved out. for all i know, he never made a dime. and he never let anybody touch his stereo system either!
