I'd second that for the Jagat Nivas - it was beautiful, fantastic service, overlooking what is left of the lake and the Lake Palace, lovely decor in very clean rooms with excellent bathrooms. Best of all was the food on the rooftop restaurant with the cushioned alcoves to sit in.... the food was some of the nicest hotel food I had the whole time I was in India.
I had an amazing birthday evening sipping G&T on the roof terrace. Dinah

My two absolute favorite places in Udaipur for pure luxury and beauty are the heritage Lake Palace Hotel, or the newer~ultra luxurious and absolutely spectacular Oberoi UdaiVilas!
The UdaiVilas is an Oberoi Property, in their Vila division and these places are out of this world!! The hotel in udaipur is stunning and spectacular! On this subject, The oberoi line of Vilas also have superb properties in Rathambore and Jaipur too, and in Agra, the exquistie AmarVilas! These places are some of the most beautiful//luxurious places to stay in India and it will cost YOU!!!. Any questions, feel free to drop me a line. I have seen, and or stayed in all the properties..Happy to help. namastE

Best Place to stay in Udaipur
I vote too for the Udai Kothi - stayed there in March and it was wonderful. By the way, we've stayed in the Lake Palace too - but when we were in Udaipur last, the lake had essentially dried up, so staying at the Lake Palace would hardly be the same experience!

very central and very modestly priced is rangniwas palace hotel. their restaurant has the nicest home-cooked style veg food. there's even a small pool to cool off in. the staff wore smiles and looked like they meant them.
do not stay at the trident hilton (adjacent to oberoi udaivilas). a total rip-off. |
