The Beach in Cochin
There is this resort, oriented towards backwaters, but right at the beach. It is quiet and seems good quality. If you want a quiet beach, not much beach-life, no night-life, it is a great place.

This lovely beach bordering Vyppin island is ideal for swimming. Dolphins are occasionally seen here. Cherai, is well known for sea food.

Has anyone actually been to the Cherai Beach Resort? There seem to be no reviews about the place here under the Kochi hotels section or elsewhere.TripAdvisor has mixed reviews for the place with some saying it is in dire need of maintenance and some find it pleasant.
Most people think the location is their biggest advantage.
Other places nearby that I've seen mentioned here are the Sealine Beach Resort and Fort Royale (although that's on Fort Kochi and not exactly on the beach).
Could someone help me with the following requirements:
1) Looking for a resort near Cherai beach/Fort Kochi.
Would LOVE to have rooms with stilts or build on islets, basically, surrounded by water. Cherai Beach Resorts had some that fit the bill, so was tempted by it before reading the reviews.
2)Budget 3500-4000 INR inclusive of taxes per night for a double occupancy room.
3) Also, anyone know of any reasonably priced, not too posh necessarily but safe and comfy houseboat options near Allepey for an overnight cruise?
Would really appreciate any helpful inputs/pointers.
If at first you don't succeed, try management
Bumpity Bump!!!
People in the know, please reply. Would appreciate some inputs a lot!!!

Cherai Experience
I had stayed at the Cherai Beach resort in January 2008. The location was great, and the experience was good. Only the water from the backwaters flooded the paths to the cottages from the lobby and the restaurant during the high tides, and the small pools inside the resort didn't go out. So stagnant and smelly water is what we encountered when walking to and fro from our cottage. Otherwise, it's nice.
The beach is just across the road outside the main entrabce to the resort.
The Spa is to be accessed by the boat the resort maintains and one can have a boatride as well.
