Bangalore: a good budget hotel?

I have found lots of sites listing three-star-and-above hotels in Bangalore, complete with photographs that prove that you might as well be in Miami. As soon as the sites descend all the way to two-star or one-star hotels, suddenly there are no pictures and no descriptions. But some fascinating-sounding names!

Can anyone give me some ideas of a Bangalore budget hotel that is fairly clean, but has a bit of local colour? Thanks for all replies!

I heard of one called Airlines Hotel, in a nice location, that was pretty cheap - unfortunately they were fully booked when i was there, so i can't give a firsthand opinion, but apparently it's quite good.

Thanks, Wandering Cat! I will check that one out -- seems I have seen it mentioned before on a web page somewhere.

I stayed in the Chandra Vihar ( 'Beautiful view' - don't take it literally ! ) which was reasonable ( 300 rs ?? ) It's a business hotel in the Old Muslim Quarter . Clean, cable TV and a newspaper in the morning.

Bangalore didn't have too much to offer on the 'budget' side of things.

try 'Brindavan hotel' on MG Road. it's next to Cauvery emporium. Costs Rs 800-1500/night?. It's slightly recessed & down a lane but you can't miss it.

remembered

another one. the Kamadenu Lodge, which is opposite the 'Taj Residency' near Trinity Circle. There are are 2 Tajs on MG rd, the Gateway and the Residency. the hotel looks a bit dodgy but has got clean beds and a decent bathroom. The place is about 1Km from Brindavan hotel. Walkable,

The place is near Ulsoor lake. Here's a tip; If you walk towards Ulsoor lake, there's this Sikh Gurdwara, next to it's is Bobby, a small one room shack, serving excellent Punjabi food. That was run by a chap called Bobby who then moved on but the name stuck. It's on a lane running along the wall of the temple.

That's great, Digital Drifter.... I checked a hotels list and got the exact address of both your recommendations. Now I'm all set to go! Many thanks.

Cheap accomodation in around bangalore

Hi,

I would suggest you to look around the " Majestic" area near the City Rly Stn and Metro Bus stand which is the heart of the city for cheap good hotels. The names that come to my mind are one is Hotel Kauvery, Hotel Amar, Hotel Mahaveer all are in the range of 350 to 400 rs a day with TV and toilet. U can find more hotels near to Kempagowda circle which is near to these rly stn. There are plenty of choices there.

Yes, the area around the bus and railway station is the best place to look.

Bangalore budget hotels

Try hotel Ajantha on MG Road, Shangrila on Brigade Road, or Airlines hotel on Lavelle Road. They are all very centrally located, and cost between Rs500-800 per night per 2 person room. I know people who have tried atleast one of them, and they never had a bad experience there.

Hotel Ajantha is supposed to be good, but they were fully booked last time I was in Bangalore.

I have stayed several times over the years at Royal Lodge, which is near the rail station; it's very inexpensive but the people are nice.

Overbooking is easy to fix -- just google for their number, and call them and book them. Most don't ask for credit card or upfront payment -- they go by trust value.
