Question Anyone know these hotels in Mumbai?

Namaste,
I will be travelling to India for 1st time on Thursday. I am to meet my fiancée in Mumbai (she is in Nasik doing Yoga teacher training) and we will stay the night before going to Hampi. In her last email she told me to get us a reservation at one of these hotels:

hotel prosser's
curzon house,2-4 henry rd.
apollo bunder rd.
south of regal where henry rd meets the sea.

hotel city palace
121 city tcc. w. hirachand marg

Does anyone know these? Recommend one over the other? I have Googled and searched these forums but haven't found anything on them.
Thank you.

I would not stay at either if I was with someone else. If it is for a single male then it is fine but otherwise I would think of better places than these two. They may appear a bit cheap but are not so good otherwise. Hope this helps. The Prosser at Colaba seems better than the City Palace which is just opposite CST Station.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Thanks Aadil. Can you recommend an affordable place where I can stay with my fiancée? Or anyone else? I leave in 24hrs so any tips are greatly appreciated. We do have guide books... in fact my fiancée found those 2 hotels in the book. But it is always better to get advice from experienced people
Thank you!!

Hope you get this in time before you leave. There are a few places near the Fort and Colaba area for similar prices. There is Hotel Benazeer for about Rs1000 and Hotel Residency for about Rs1600 at Fort near the Citibank headoffice. Then there is Hotel Railway near CST for similar prices. there is Hotel Shelleys near Colaba for a slightly higher price of Rs2000 but worth the view it offers of the sea from the rooms. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Residency Hotel information: Single Room is Rs1400 to Rs1500 plus 10% tax and Double Room is Rs1500 to Rs1650 plus 10% tax. Extra person in room is Rs120 plus 10% tax. Website is www.residencyhotel.com and their email is residencyhotel@vsnl.com. The telephone numbers are 091(022)22625525/6/7/8/9 or Fax is 22619164. Reservations is 091(022)22618986 or 22615500. Do not take their airport to hotel transfer facility as it is much more expensive (Rs800) than the prepaid AC taxi. Most of my friends stay at this hotel when they come to Mumbai so I know it is pretty good from all their reviews.

Railway Hotel (www.hotelrailway.com)

Shelleys Hotel (www.shelleyshotel.com)

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Aadil I ended up getting a room at Benazeer, right next to Residency. Not as nice, but more in my budget. Also, only staying one night so should be fine. And it is close to CST where I have to go to get tickets. Only problem is I arrive at 5am and can't check in until noon. What to do? He said I could stop by earlier and if the room is available he will charge me 1.5days. Otherwise I do not know what to do for 6-7hrs, first time in India with all my backpack on me.

You could leave the luggage at the hotel and then go out till he checks you in at noon. He should not charge you extra for that!!! Or better still leave your backpack (ensure it is with a lock) at the CST station Cloakroom for Rs10 per piece and go about doing your own thing till it is time to check in at the hotel. Hope this helps. I would also think it is better to go to the Western Railway Reservation Office opposite the Churchgate station for the train tickets as it is a smaller queue over there than at the CST station (even if you are going to buy it on the foreign tourist's quota). Why have you not bought your train tickets on the internet? Much more easier to do and book online with e-tickets for most trains. Too late for buying i-tickets now, I guess. You require atleast two working days for the tickets to be delivered to your hotel in India. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Reason I didn't get tickets b/c I didn't think of delivering to hotel, as you can tell, since I just got my hotel reservation! Ha!! I am not so good at planning. Will it be difficult to get ticket for the next day? We will be going to Hampi.
Well thanks again for the advice I should get some rest. Will check back in tomorrow AM before I leave.

Hi Ferny,

I'm going to Bombay next 13th and will stay in Hotel Residency. Have already been there a couple of times and can recommend it.

Well, that could be a slight problem as you don't have a direct train to Hampi from Mumbai. There are different ways you can go to Hampi from Mumbai and the most popular one must be by train via Goa but then that is only when you are also visiting Goa first and not only to go to Hampi. The other way is by train to Guntakal on the Mumbai - Bangalore/Chennai route and then onto Hampi via Hospet which is the train station close to Hampi. It also involves a change of trains and is not really a very convenient way to go there. Actually, there is no convenient way to go there, even if you were to go by road it would not be so easy or cheap!!!

In Hampi there is a small guest house called Padma Guest House where I have stayed twice and it is a nice little place run by Ms. Padma and she is a very helpful lady. This is the best place to stay in Hampi. The rates vary as the season varies and right now it is almost peak season so the rates I heard a few weeks ago were about Rs800 for a double room which I stayed in for Rs250 in June!!! HAHAHA!!! So that's how things work in India. There is also the KSTDC run Mayura Bhuvaneshwari Hotel at Kamalapura very close to Hampi and that should have rooms for about Rs400 to 1400. I did stay there for a short visit during the one day tour of Hampi by the KSRTC bus which provided the room for free in the afternoon to rest after lunch. The inhouse restaurant has some good Indian food. Hope this helps. And feel free to ask for any advice via personal message if you wish when you are here in Mumbai.

Cheers,
Aadil.
