Any experience with www.makemytrip.com for hotels?
I have seen mention of people using makemytrip to book flights, but nothing much about hotels.
Although we'd generally prefer to 'see before we buy' we have a few nights when we want to be sure of somewhere. And it looks as if, in some cases, makemytrip is offering lower rates than the hotels. But I am concerned that we would pay up front and then turn up to find that the hotel denied knowledge of the booking. Does anyone have good or bad experience of makemytrip for hotels? It's likely we'd be booking over the phone rather than via internet, so recommendations on if this is a good idea, plus details of how good makemytrip is with foreign credit cards would also help. Thanks for any help you can give. |

In my experience, you will be given a voucher by email from makemytrip.com which the hotel will honour when you arrive. They are informed as soon as your booking is made and will book your room then. I haven't heard of any hotels denying knowledge of your booking - make my trip are one very reliable company who forward payment to hotel owners often before you arrive. If there was some bad behaviour on their part they would not be used by make my trip. And yes, often the rates turn out to be slightly less, than if you booked personally, or they include breakfast within the room rate price - this is because of assured bookings coming from them and so the hotelier gives his rooms at slightly lower rates in the first place. Make My Trip take I think around 10% commission, but it still works out cheaper for the client. Don't know re foreign credit cards but I should imagine, okay. It's a reputable company here.

hi Suej,
you may just want to double check the terms when you book into a hotel.. another member had a bad experience with booking through make my trip.com and his posting is listed under the Himachal Pradesh forum. i've attached the link below.. Snowcrest Manor. Definite Avoid. Worst hotel |

Just to clarify maypacheco's post, the issues the person in the linked post ran into had nothing directly to do with MakeMyTrip.com.
I've used MakeMyTrip.com for a couple of hotel bookings. Even if you book online they use the same voucher system. The staff at the call center will contact the hotel directly, confirm your booking and then send you the voucher via email. Both times I used them the hotel had full knowledge of my booking and actually treated me like a preferred customer as a result. The only issue I had was in making a same-day booking. It took 3-4 follow up calls to MakeMyTrip to hurry them into sending the voucher quickly. I think they're not really set up to do same-day bookings. Also, they seem to be operating as an booking agent rather than a travel agent so I wouldn't assume that the hotels listed have been screened or endorsed by them in any way. You still need to do your homework before committing to a reservation. They do accept foreign credit cards. |

I have to disagree with cheese.
If make-my-trip merely downgraded hotel to a 3star they are not exactly providing satisfactory customer service. They should be taking responsibility for their recommendations- they are making commission after all. |

The hotels are screened and listed by them before they are put onto their bookings site. You know, the same experience could happen to anyone not only via makemytrip.com! Any booking via internet may fail to fulfil the imagination of the booker - also often photographs for websites are false. The expectations of clients and reality may be vastly different. To the best of my knowledge, photos of rooms etc. used by makemytrip are true.

Yep, could happen to me if i booked it over the 'net but then only the hotel would lose out and me and i would be able to deal with them and seek recompense.
If a booking company is taking commission they have a responsibility. If a shopkeeper sells me a dud apple, he will sort it then take it up with supplier. Makemytrip are the shopkeeper- they should sort and keep customer happy. I don't want to go on a rant (bit late?) but think will agree to disagree. i am just of the opinion that a lot of internet intermediaries get away with absolving themselves rather too easily. |
