Alwar - where to stay, Kesroli booked out with a wedding.
Kesroli was to be the place to stay near Alwar, but it is booked out with a wedding. As it is the second night of my inlaws first india trip we wanted somewhere comfortable to stay.
Guest house, home stay, hotel, it does not matter so long as it is near Alwar and is clean, quiet and comfortable. Alwar Bagh is the only thing I can find that looks OK, but I did read some mixed reviews and they want 100% payment to hold a booking !!!! That is just not the sort of thing I like to do, deposit perhaps. Then it has to be by bank transfer that consumes funds in fees. Anyone have any suggestions for Alwar. Why Alwar ? I have a nice memory of the place from when I led a cycle trip there in the mid 1980's when I was working as a trekking guide in Nepal. We camped near the lake out of town on that occasion. I remember Alwar as off the main tourist route, has a neat fort and pond in town and we did not get hassled by touts much. Time may have changed the latter, but hopefully the rest is still relevant. |

We stayed in the Imperial Guesthouse at th Manu Marg. It is a simple hotel where we had a large room with balcony for 500 rs.
Hot water but no shower, no restaurant but room-service. Just behind it is a bunch of other small hotels Still no touts, the pond is great, the palace is an office now. |
