Hi all, I will be in Ajanta next December and I wonder if anybody knows an accomodation near the caves. I tried with MTDC Holiday Resort but it's full.
I can't find any other solution on the Internet, I'm trying to avoid sleeping elsewhere since I'll reach Ajanta on 25th early afternoon and I have a train from Jalgaon on 26th afternoon, so I'd like to visit the caves both 25th and 26th.
I appreciate any suggestion.
Thank you all in advance
Bye
Roberta

Hi Roberta,

There is no accomodation at the caves apart from the MTDC thingii...

There is a small village a few kms before Ajanta ... there is a shaddy lodge there, where I stayed, but dont stay there alone. Also, you may manage some place at Ajanta village, but again dont stay there alone...i can't recollect the name of that village where I stayed...i'll post it if I remember it..

I believe the shady place being referred to might be Fadaphur. I am trying to do something similiar in January and haven't gotten down to the hotel reservations yet (getting ready to reserve the trains ). Try searching the forum/google/guide book and see if you can't find some options for Fadaphur(try spelling is without the H too). If you end up staying there please write back and let us know how it went. I for one would also like more info.

Roberta

I guess you are right. We stayed there in 2007 in hotel Plaza. It was a good hotel, the most expensive room, a big one, was 900 rs.
Their are regular busses from Ajanta to Jalgaon, it takes about an hour.

It can be useful to others: we ended up staying in Ellora and then moving to Ajanta by car (it about 2.5 hours)

Bye

Both are really amazing. Kailasa Temple in Ellora is wonderful! If you have to choose I think Ellora is better. We stayed 3 days and visited also Daulatabad Fort (very nice), which is really near Ellora and reachable through any bus going from Ellora to Aurangabad.
Maybe sleeping in Aurangabad could give more choice for dinner. Ellora is very little, so nothing to do in the evening, but it was ok for us.

I agree about the paintings. The pictures my humanities teacher showed me that she had taken in 1995 were astonishingly different from what is left in the caves. So sad but I enjoyed both Ajanta and Ellora. I'm so glad we went during the winter. I can not imagine visiting during the summer. Ughh.
We stayed in Aurangabad. Saw Daultabad Fort then Ellora, the Poor Man's Taj, Pani Chowk and the other little sites around Aurangabad one day. The next day we got up early and headed to the bus stand. We took the bus to Ajanta (there is a cloak room for luggage) and after seeing Ajanta we took another bus to Jalgaon. It all worked out very nicely.

I was in aurangabad for 3 years for my post graduation
I enjoyed it lot
During my course I observed colors vanishing of ajanta
they are trying to preserve it BUT
hope so they will do it best
I found ellora & daulatabad fort most beuty to me
especially jain caves of ellora
It is worth to ride a bike to ellora in monsoon
We had done it many times in our post graduation

Hi everybody!
Anyone knows a small hotel in the village Phardapur (Fardapur) few km north of Ajanta Cave, called Murli Manohar Hotel ? A friend of mine found it while she was visiting the caves, she stayed and said it's pleasant, clean and convenient...
Obviously the major Travel Guides don't mention it! I need contact number and/or valid e-mail address!
Thanks
Francesca- Rome
