Accommodation in Kharagpur
I am looking for a hotel or guest house in Kharagpur for the night of the 20th November 2009. I cannot find any accomodation on the internet. If someone can recommend a good clean place I would be most grateful. This is a bit of a homage as Kharagpur is where my uncle and his sisters were born. His elder sister is 90 this year and we want to be able to get some stories of modern KGP to take back to them.
Thanks The Wintonian |

Wow, I never thought anyone would be interested in visiting KGP. There is The Park hotel near the IIT gate which is called Puri Gate.

guesthouse for non-guests Isn't that an oxymoron? IIT-KGP does have a guest house and it is only for IIT guests!! Cheers Nattusbs |

Thanks Guys for your quick reply. Nattusbs, I have now found The Park gate's e-mail, thanks for that. We are really looking forward to getting to KGP. Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but we will have limited time in KGP. Is it likely that I will find a helpful english speaking taxi driver to indulge us in some 'time travel' when we arrive at the station? We have no idea how much the city will have changed since 1947. For all we know there will be nothing recognisable. Thanks again.

Hi Nattusbs, can you give any advice on a travel issue. We leave KGP on 21 nov and have to get to Kolkata for an early flight to Del on 22nd. I have booked on Falaknuma Exp (2A) dep KGP 15:35 but have been given WL3 and WL4. Do you know how likely it is that we will get confirmed on this train? Does it matter? I understand there are loads of trains from KGP/HWH.
Thanks |

No worries. I can find you an "Hinglish" speaking driver. Actually, Nov 21st is a Saturday and I or the driver should be able to take you around in my car/ or hire car. How many of you will be in the party?
Re: going to Kolkata airport on 21st evening for the early morning flight to Delhi (what time does that depart?), my suggestion is to have the hired car take you straight from KGP to CCU airport - I use it all the time when I fly, it is much more convenient than taking the train to Howrah and then getting a cab in the crowd. The car fare to the airport is about Rs 2000 (since he has to make a round-trip). Do let me know. Cheers Nattusbs |
