Accommodation in Allepey followed by day cruise from Allepey to Kollam

Hi!

Myself, my husband & our 2 daughters (10 & 17yrs) will be ariving at Allepey train station at around 8.30pm on Sunday 27th December '09. I am looking for suggestions on where to stay in Allepey that night as well as a good day cruise for the next day, from Allepey to Kollam, as we can get a taxi from Kollam to Kovalam (where we will be staying) the next night.

We like the idea of a heritage homestay in Allepey followed by a well respected operater to take us on the Allepey - Kollam backwater cruise the next day. We cant do an overnight cruise (which we would have LOVED to do) due to the late arrival in Allepey...unless anyone knows of one that leaves LATE at night??

Thanks guys

Hi

I realise this post is 2 years old, but can you tell me how you got on and where you stayed. We are doing the same thing this November and any advise would be very much appreciated.

Try a Mr. Jamse Kurian in Alleppey cell 944 780 4704. He has a boat the Jesus Christ that worked well for my husband and I. Jamse speaks okay english and really knows the backwaters.

Hi Zamba, A good homestay that we used was Venice Castle. You can google for their website and reviews are on Tripadvisor.
It is a good place, very clean, with a good breakfast and localed about 3 blocks from Jamse's boat. The backwaters are beautiful, I am sure you will have a great time.

Given the name of the boat, I suspect the name would be "James" --- and, what's more, by amazing coincidence, I think it is the same man who has taken me out on my birthday cruise for the past three or four years!

Christian name, Christian boat ... just not 100% sure it was Jesus Christ.

Whoever it is, I think your boatman won't have a problem picking up from Malayalam Resort, or from the small landing stage nearby.

great replies Nick H and Lady Traveller. I will definately get picked up from Mallayalam resort and do some cruising around the backwaters instead of a "Ketuvallem" i think. They are sounding way too touristy for my liking. Especially at that time of year.
I plan to ring him when i arrive and tee up a day or a half day. cheers Zamba.
