Question 3* hotel reviews in Goa

Hello,
I am visiting Goa during new years and will be there for five nights. All the five star hotels are either booked or too expensive. So I am lookign at 3* hotels. I would like to know if anyone of you has had experience staying at one of these hotels
Nova Goa - Panjim
Mandovi - Panjim
Hotel La Paz Gardens - Vasco Da Gama

I am a little wary coz all these hotels are at least 20 years old (I was in Goa 15 years ago), so if you have had any experience with these hotels please let me know.
Also if you have a suggestion for a GOOD 3* hotel in Panjim/Vasco/Porvorim/Mapusa-Bardez please IM me. When IO say good, I mean by american standards.

Thank you in Advance.

I have used all 3 hotels on your list and yes they are quite old. Without a doubt the Hotel Mandovi is the best of the lot. In fact the Hotel Mandovi is the best hotel in Panjim barring the Marriott.

There are no other 3 star hotels in Vasco and none whatsoever in Mapusa. Mapusa has no decent hotel to speak of. In Porvorim you have The Angels Resort

Thank you GoanCanuck.
Angels resort seems like a good place. I have emailed them regarding reservations.
Is "the majestic Goa" in porvorim a 5* or a 3*?

What about Margao/Ponda? any good hotels. Also the drive from Margao/Ponda to Panjim, is it still two hours?
Thanks

Vasco hotel

Was in Vasco earlier this year and stayed at the Vasco Residency. It was clean comfortable, and walking distance to the train station. An AC double was 800 rupees, but I think the price is slightly higher (~960 Rp) during peak season. (late December to early January) It's across from a park and fairly quiet.
The phone numbers I have are 2513119 and 2511002.

Vasco de Gama is not really a tourist place, but was handy for catching the train to Hospet which leaves at 7:10 AM.

The Majestic is a 3 star hotel with 5 star rates but it is fairly new so I guess that's the reason for the premium.

From Margao to Panjim is a 35 minute drive by car. From Ponda to Panjim it takes the same time almost.

The best hotel in Margao is the Nanutel http://www.nanuindia.com/home.htm

Are you going to be visiting Goa on holiday or for business? If you are going to be on holiday then there is no reason to stay in Panjim, Margao, Vasco or any of the other cities.

3* hotel reviews in Goa

Hi,
I wish to stay in one of these cities because I am going there not only for pleasure but also meet many families. I lived in Goa for 8 years and have about five close families I would like to meet while I am there. The families are in altinho-panjim, provorim, vasco. I will use up two days to meet people and then the other two days to enjoy parasailing etc, dolphin watching.
I would also like to visit palolem coz I never saw it when I was in Goa.
Thank you for your suggestions. Let me inquire with Nanutel also.
If you have any suggestions based on my travel plan please post .

No need to do advance booking for a car. There is an abundant supply of all types of vehicles.
In Porvorim you may have to keep in mind that there is a severe water shortage and this will impact each hotel in that area in varying degrees.

Staying in Margao would be advisable if you can get accommodation at Nanutel. Another option would be the hotels which are not too far from Margao in Utorda, Betalbatim, Colva.

3* hotel reviews in Goa

Hi everybody,
Thank you for all the information. Especially the tip about water shortage in porvorim. I have temporarily booked at Lotus Suites. I hope that is a nice place. If not, Please post.
I am looking forward to having this wonderful trip. It seems things have changed a lot in Panjim. It will be a good trip down memory lane for me
