Weather

Hi...I was wondering whether anyone can help me out on the weather in North India around Leh at this time of year. What are the average temperatures in the day and at night? Will I need to bring a sleeping bag or do most guest houses have blankets? Thanks.

Hello Jillydog;

I never go without my own sleeping bag. Some budget hotels can be quite dirty, it´s very nice then to have your own bag.

it gets very cold at night! in july, i slept in long underwear, a silk sleep sheet and two heavy blankets! i would venture to say that my room was not as insulated as some of the newer hotels.....i didnt mind.

i love leh!! have a great time!

on the sleeping bag issue....i wished i had one when i was in leh, but it would have been a pain for the other 3.5 months to carry it around india!!!

For the actual weather you can also check this page
http://weather.cnn.com/weather/forecast.jsp?locCode=IN072
I was in Ladakh last august. and I was going just with a cotton linner, It worked ok while i was in Leh itself. I was in a family house (nor a guest house or hotel) and they provide me blankets (not clean at all, but enough) and i have no cold at night.

The nights outside Leh (i.e. on Sarchu in the manali to leh route) where cold in a tent and i had to slept under too many blankets that i feel a little bit opressed

So, assuming you'll go there on summer time, as ikimasho says if you're going for a long time in INdia and not just the himalayas maybe you've enough with your linner and tons of blanket. But if you're going mainly to this area it's worth bringing your sleeping bag.
