Vote for your Choice of Hotel/GH in Leh
I think that everyone knows that there are many hotels/GH in Leh and surrounding areas but most of us aren't perfectly sure where to stay. So I think that all the experienced guys outhere should vote for their choice of hotels & GHs so that novice travellers could get better choice
Starting from me, I think best Hotel in Leh can be considered to be Shangri La (1500-3000) while for Guest House I think it is Oriental (300-700). Contact details can be found everywhere on this site. So what about U? |

You can update the hotel/GH details in the hotels listing section as well. Click here

Hotel Dreamland is terrible (smells bad) but the restaurant of the same name nearby is good.
(been here a week and have not had a hot shower yet) |

Oriental Guesthouse in Changspa is great! It gives you a fresh perspective being outside the bustle of Leh, the views are awesome and the owners are very hospitable!
The walk into Leh is only 10 minutes or so, and is pleasant and not busy. Oriental ***** |

Hallo James! Lucky you to be in Leh right now! (Less tourist than in August I suppose.....
)Do you have an upstair room or downstair? I stayed there only two nights and we had hot water (they have a big gyser behind) but I remember the smell too...... The restaurant is good but expensive. |

First visit I stayed at Hotel Kangari near J&K bank. It wasn't really good with bad carpets and linen.
Second visit I stayed at Yak Tail which I found pretty good. Close to market place and good to just hang around with number of restaurant and bar (IBEX) in the walking distances. I guess this is the olded hotel in Leh. Approx 2k per night. Third visit again at Yak Tail. Good one. |

Awesome, this has been really useful lehlover.
I'll be in leh at the end of Aug first week of Sept, and am booked in the Shangrila hotel. I was a little worried at first as I couldn';t find anything about it online.. *Phew* - Thanks for the info. Btw- does anyone have the phone number of hotel Shangrila, or any more details on it? -Sharan |

Cho Palace Hotel, Leh
Hi
In my trip to Ladakh in Aug'07, I stayed in Cho Palace Hotel. The hotel is located in Skara Village, 1 Km from airport and 2 Km from Leh town centre. The hotel falls in A category hotel (highest) as per classification of local administration. The hotel opened last season and few people know about. It was probably for this that we could get accomodation, as all major hotels were booked during that time ( aug 3rd week) due to visit of HH Dalai Lama. We had made advance booking in Jun. The room rent for standard double bed is INR 2000.00 per night including tax. We could negotiate a discount of 30% and paid INR 1400 per night. The rooms are very good with excellent views of the mountains. Attached bath with 24 hr running hot & cold water. Service is excellent. There is an attached resturant but prices are bit on higher side. Hotel owner frequently gives free drop to Leh town center. Otherwise taxi charges INR 80-100. The walk from Leh town center to hotel takes around 30 mins. We enjoyed the walks to hotel in the evenings. Contact numbers for hotel: (o)91-1982-251659, 91-1982-251691 (m)91-94191 79565 DISCLAIMER: I HAVE ONLY MENTIONED MY EXPERIENCES & NO WAY RELATED TO HOTEL. I DO NOT DERIVE ANY BENEFIT FROM ANY IMr BOOKING THIS HOTEL. |
