two weeks in ladakh? Hi I have two weeks to spend travelling in India and I'm keen on going to Ladakh. As we would be going at the end of may i know that we would need to fly into Leh. I was wondering though whether there was enough to see and do in that region over the 2 weeks (and any advice about whats good to see, do, trek), and also whether it would be easy to get to places or whether snow would make any trips out of Leh difficult.

Judging from a stay in the winter : no problem at all, transportationwise along the Indus. Very little snow to be seen in the valley . Food can be frugal until Zoji La opens , I remember buying the last kilo of apples in Leh market - in late January. High altitude treks , esp. southwards would mean dealing with the snow in the passes turning to mush and higher water levels in the runoffs . I have no idea if the peak levels in the streams are reached in May or June , but IŽd be wary of it.

Two weeks is by no means too long in Ladakh. But if you only have two weeks, leave a little time to look at Delhi so you'll see another side of India while you're at it. Despite rumors to the contrary, Delhi is a great city!

Well, I'm off there on the 19th of December, and the temperature is predicted at close to -10 degrees celsius! Considering I'm going there for some photography, I just hope my camera and laptop batteries don't die in the field! nevilleb

as visted says, you will have no problems what concerns transport in the indus valley at all, but you may face problems (snow, ice, cold) on the treks south of that valley, e.g. markha valley. if you want to go trekking do homestay trekking on the northern side of the indus, try Likir to Khaltse. i do not know about nubra at that time of the year, but i was in Ladakh twice in May. it is not the best time of the year, but it quickly gets warmer towards the end of the month.

Nubra along with all high altitude passes are closed. In my views- two weeks in Ladakh is too much in May.I think if you are not a committed adventure loving person-then you should not spend whole vocation there. You have to book your air tickets well in advance- accommodation is no problem at this time but joining some group for trekking is better than going alone with a guide and pony. You will find leaflets on walls from people looking for partners but again-check them by talking to them about what exactly they are looking for. All my friends who felt two weeks are fine for Ladakh are not wrong either but in MAY- you can not goin remote as crossing high passes or an attempt to travel through them is niether safe nor possible. Although some agencies do claim....but I do not think than we should play with nature. If you can notchange your timing- spend some time in ' other india'also. After all it is a multi-dimensional country !
