Do not forget to acclimatize for at least two full days [not counting arrival day] at Leh. If time permits, acclimatize for three days... Leh is a very nice place to stay and tour around by vehicle. Do not attempt tiring walks on the two days.
A friend of mine did not acclimatize properly and had to come back without doing the Pass crossing. Another group had a member who started trekking on the very day he landed in Leh. He died on the third day due to acute cerebral edema. Am not trying to alarm you. Quite to the contrary. With acclimatization this trek will be a breeze if you are a regular trekker. Lotsa agencies in Leh to hire ponies etc. Its a route which is familiar with many guides in Leh. GO ahead, ALL THE BEST and HAPPY TREKKING FOR 2007

acclimatize
Yes, I totally agree with the acc issue. One should take it very seriously. All the fun can go down the drain if one member also falls sick. Better is take a bus from Manali to Leh than flying in. Take a flight out at the end of your visit.
How about Jul - Aug for this trek? What all permissions are required. VSK |

Assuming you are an Indian National, no permits are required. Foreigners can easily obtain trekking permits at Leh in a single day. |

Kibber-Tso moriri
Me and my boyfriend did this trek in August and it is the best experience, ever. Beautiful nature, no tourists, wild animals,... We were very carefull with the aclimatization, of course. We did it on our own, carrying everything by ourselves. It was really marvelous! Here are our photos from the whole trip: from Delhi to Manali, Kaza, the trek, Leh, Nubra walley. Sorry about the texts - they're in slovene language.

Awesome!! You did it without guides? How did u find the way? Is it possible solo? How many kilo' food did you carry? Total weight of pack? how many days without seeing village/local food? Did you need crampons?
Please let me know as I am planning for jun/jul next year. Cheers |

@shrack and @gobblegedeek, thanks! I'm glad that you liked the pictures!
Yes, we did it without guides or porters. We had some descriptions of the route (we found them on the internet), but were very poor and, also, inaccurate. And there aren't any maps of the area. In truth, we missed the route only half and hour from the start in Kibber .They are building a new road there, which wasn't mentioned in the descriptions. But, for the rest of the trekking, there were no problems with finding the right way! We only worried for the pass (Parang La), because there was new snow there. We had luck, we met a group of soldiers, so the path was visible, again. We carried a GPS with us and saved some points, I can send them, if someone is interested. For solo trek is more difficult, because the pack gets heavier! You need a tent, a sleeping bag, a stove, food, clothes,... (you don't need crampons, the glacier is easy to walk) Our rucksacks weighted more than 20 kilos! We had food for 10 days (we did the trek in 7 days, but you can't count on that!). The only village is Dumla (2 hours from Kibber) and then nothing till Korzok! Also not a lot of other trekkers, we met at most 1 group per day! We rented the bikes in Leh, but weren't very good. The brakes worked well, but everything else was We headed to Khardung La (the highest pass on the world), but we qiut 10km from the pass, on 5200m.For any further questions, please, feel free to ask! Regards, Vanja |
