Tso Moriri or Nubra Valley?
Tso Moriri or Nubra Valley?
We're not on our way yet, but will be in two weeks. Hooray! Was wondering if anybody has a strong preference either for the Nubra Valley or for Tso Moriri. This is a second smaller trip--low key, less walking, more for the scenery--we're planning after an week long trek from Chilling to Hemis. I heard it's a long, rough road to Tso Moriri, some say it's worth it, some say so-so given the bone-jarring trip. I'm game for whatever is most interesting, varied...an appealing to our 11 year old (who just did a junior's hike around the Mont Blanc in prep for this trip!)....

Hi,
Tsomoriri for the changspa herds, High altitude lake, Monastery , Rupshu plains and the road trip ...... Nubra for the beacon highway, Khardungla, Bactrian camels and for the Oasis it is in the desert , for the historical essence ....... If time permits then both ...... Nubra 9/10..... Tsomoriri 8/10 ......... not for the place however for the preference to visit ....

After some thought we've chosen to go to Nubra Valley rather than Tso Moriri.
It's a much shorter journey and the facilities seem better there - there's also the problem that we are returning to Keylong by bus and after staying at Tso Moriri we would have to pick up onward transport in the middle of nowhere or return to Leh, and we don't like backtracking all that way.
Nubra sounds like an attractive place and I'm sure we can pursue our ornithological, botanical and lepidopterous inclinations equally well there - they might even have cold KF's at a price
