Trips from Leh

Hi All,

We'll be spending about 7 - 10 days in Ladakh in August and basing ourselves in Leh. Whilst there we're planning on going on overnight trips to the Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake. We'll also be travelling back overland to Manali.

What I was wondering is how easy it will be to find others when we get to Leh to share the cost of taxis with us for these trips? Is it best to ask travel agents or find people ourselves to share? It looks as though it will add up to to quite a bit and we want to try and keep our costs down to a reasonable level. Also, how many passengers generally can travel per taxi (in relative comfort!) - again just trying to get an idea of how much we're likely to be spending on travelling costs.

Appreciate any help and advice.

shouldnt be a problem with a taxi share when you get there. More than 4 passengers in a taxi is cramped. get a qualis/land crusier - it can hols mre but the legroom is poor, esp for western heights

Hi Soldier - we'd definitely be interested in sharing takis to Nubra and Pangong. We will be arriving in Leh on 21st August and staying for around a week, basing ourselves there. I'll message you my e-mail address and we can see if we can sort something out.

Jaideeprupal - Thanks for the link, we'd already seen the site and it's proved very useful in our planning

The easy budget option for Nubra , which also means you are not locked in to any time plan , is taking the bus. Runs every second day.

Thanks Vistet, do you know how long the bus takes and how comfortable it's likely to be?!

You can´t accuse the state buses of being comfortable , or roomy . But I manage , six feet something and slightly overweight. And the ambience is great. Last time I took a shared cab in & out when the buses weren´t running, didn´t seem much faster . Couple of hours to the top , late lunch in Diskit.
