trip to ladakh

Hi all,

I am planning to visit ladakh next year(2010). my question is what is the best time to visit ? somebody told me to start in 2nd week of may so that i would be able to some snow. I am planning jeep safari starting from manali & ending with srinagar for 15-16 days.

ok.. a few clarifications... u r planning to go 'alone' or 'group'?

Any particular reason u chose May? The drive per se is extremely adventurous, so unless u're like 'aa bail mujhe maar' its the month of landslides in those roads... landslides is too small a word in these treacherous places.. the road just disappears and u r stranded there till some of these BRO good samaritans decide to come n make a new road. So if u're not keen on this kind of adventure, i would suggest u choose aug-sep to go when it is great fun, weatherwise and otherwise

The road opens from May, no doubt, but since it just opens up there are few roadwork that BRO takes on in the initial phases to open up the traffic.

BTW, few friends and I am also planning in 2010, but that would be mid-aug - sep time. We are driving / riding from Bangalore / Chennai and back.

i am planning to go solo. suppose if i go in june 2nd week than it should be ok or still adventourous?
