Question Travel to Leh: Delhi-Srinagar-Leh or Delhi-Chandigarh-Leh or Delhi-Manali-Leh?

Hi there. We are a group of 7 people travelling to Ladakh in the second week of July for the Confluence fest. This was our initial travel plan to Leh:

July 11 - Delhi-Jammu by train
July 12 - Jammu-Srinagar by hired cab
July 13 - Srinagar-Kargil by hired cab
July 14 - Kargil-Leh by hired cab

We had planned to return to Delhi via Manali, thereby avoiding a repeat to-fro journey. However, due to unrest in Srinagar, we remain apprehensive about our approach to Leh via Srinagar. What are our other options to get to Leh from Delhi without flying, given that we have from July 10-14 to complete the journey?

Also, can HPTDC, HRTC and JKSRTC tickets be purchased in advance from Delhi?

Hi Qosmos,

Hope I am getting it right, you are travelling from July 10-July 14, ie total 5 days. So when do you propose to visit Leh and places around it. If you are not flying then three days you would consume to reach Leh, even if you take the Delhi-Manali-Leh Road!!!! (even if you take any of the said Tourism buses)

So you have two days remaining, out of which, what you will use to travel back and what to visit places around Leh. In my view untill and unless you take flight both ways you are not able to see anything at all in Leh or Ladakh. If you take flight, two days for travelling to-fro Delhi and then you have three days to look around Leh. Not much as per myself but you would be able to visit a few gompas and may be Pangong Tso as well.

Hope you would ponder on it and come to some modifications day-wise or travel-mode-wise

Bon voyage........

Pragyan
