To Padum by buss

Hi!

I hear a lot of good things about the Zanskar valley and a lot of bad things about going there by buss. How is the journey there? And I also tried to find a direct buss but at the ticket office they told me I need to change buss at Kargil, whats your experience? Is it easy to find a buss to Padum in Kargil or is there a direct buss hidden somewhere?

And if I do get there where should I go and what to see (Im not a trecker, but maybe some daytrecks)?

If anyone would like to share a jeep in a few days there please PM me your contact info.

Thanks
Christoffer

From that log, I'd say don't risk your bum in a bus - a bike or a taxi (shared) would be best! Else contact some zanskar rafting operators via email - they would have some experience to suggest the most comfortable way. Or wait for sep end when i'll return and tell you how it was

PS: mail sumit. he would be able to reply. or even sunil/yogesh might check this thread!

Christoffer there is a direct bus to Padum from Leh; however it goes only once a week. I don’t think there is any bus from Kargil, also the taxi’s heading to Padum are few and far between. Best option for you would be to contact travel agencies which specialize in trekking, since most of the people heading to Zanskar are trekkers. They might let you go with one of their trekking expedition or hook up with like minded travelers from Leh and hire a jeep to Padum.

ps. dont risk the journey on a motorcycle, the road is terrible and chore for even the experienced motorcyclists.
