Thanks Delhiwala!

Yes, these rates can be negotiated downwards. I stayed at The Grand Dragon, which is a four-star hotel, so I could not get the rates down when I went thru the hotel. However, if you approach the taxi drivers armed with these rates, you may be able to get them down by 10 to 15%. Of course, it also depends on flow of tourists - in the peak season, it may be difficult.

Dear Rishabh6296 - it may be possible to get good deals if you take one taxi and tell the driver, beforehand, where you plan to travel. I have posted the rates so that anyone going around does not get fleeced by some travel agent/hotels. The local taxi drivers are generally very nice.

Also just for sake of repitition, if you travel in Ladakh in a taxi, you HAVE to take local taxis. Means if you take a taxi from Manali or Srinagar, they can only drop you there- Personal vehicles are,of course, permitted.

I have read that taxis for sightseeing will take 4-5 people. Can anyone tell me if there are vehicles on hire that can accommodate 7 people?

Thanks for your prompt reply. Are there other options like Tempo Traveller that will take seven?

Dear Ashankha - yes there are tempo travellers available. They are called MAXI CABS.Their rates are usually 1.25 to 1.35 times (MAX)of the printed taxi rates . Good you asked as its a better option than taking 2 taxis. They usually allow upto 12-15 people. We used it for Lamayuru just recently. For the lakes, where the climb is steep at places, you may need to first confirm from the operators if they go there.

Hi,
Are the rates per person or per vehicle? i.e. Can we share the taxi with some other tourists going to the same place?

Thanks in advance,

regards,
Ram
