Taxi at Nubra

I plan to stay in Nubra for 5 days, so it is not economical
to get a return taxi from Leh. I think they charge Rs 1700-1800 per day even if the taxi does not get used.

So the idea is to have a Leh taxi drop us at Hunder and
for return after 5 days, get another taxi at Nubra drop us at Leh.

So, is it possible to get a taxi at Nubra that would drop us at Leh?. Or it is necessary to get taxi from Leh itself for the whole trip?

By the available taxi rates for 2012, 2 day Leh-Hunder-Leh trip is rs 6400 by a small car and the drop rate Leh-Hunder is Rs 4100.

Another question re: taxi at Ladakh.
I had read once here that the taxi drivers give you 10% discount on the published Taxi Union rates.

Is it still true?.
If yes, do we have to bargain with them for the discount or is it given automatically?

I think you will not get any taxi from Hunder to lah, unless your taxi-driver (from Leh) help you finding it, moreover, it'll not be cost effective at all, as you can see from the rate charts.

What you can do, is to talk with your cab-drivers, if they can manage any other trip (other tourist's) in between your stay at Hunder (5 days) and allow you some discount.

First you get the printed taxi union rate, then bargain with them on the whole.

Keep the taxi and enjoy other attractions not only around Hunder but also further down the valley. The town of Turtuk is a couple of hours further into the valley on a well paved road and used to belong to Pakistan and well worth a visit.

There are shared taxis to Leh that leave early morning from Hunder side of Diskit but no idea on cost.
