Suggestions on Kargil-zanskar-leh ???

Somewhere I read, someone has done Drass - padum (zanskar) - leh.
I have no idea of other places in between.
Has anyone done that. Please help me to make a circuit out of that.
Drass - Rangdum - Padum - Sanko - Mulbek - Leh.
or
Kargil - suru - pensi la - kushol - padum - along the zanskar river - nimoo - leh.

Road condition. Any track to follow.
Any chance of losing track and getting lost in cold desert?
what are the places to stay or night halt suggestions.
Any thing to improve knowledge on this circuit.

Zanskar / Suru Valley opens up in End June/Start July and closes by early November (Depending on the winter/snowfall). Roads are okay upto Panikhar from there onwards its loose stones and gravel.

I know few people who have done it and I am planning to go there this year. My plan ... Zanskar-June end-wanna Join

Route is as you said... Kargil-Sankoo-Panikhar-Parkachik-Rangdum-Pensi La-Padum (there are numerous villages between Pensi La & Padum but names are out of my knowledge). Distance between Kargil-Padum is about 245 kms.

How do you plan to do it ??

delhi - srinagar - drass/kargil - zanskar - leh - nubra - leh - spnagmik (pangngong tso) - chusul - karzok (tso Morriri) - jispa - keylong - kaza - nako - shimla - delhi.

Thats my plan. Its a huge one. It'll take more than a month to complete. So don't want to come back to kargil-leh road after detouring at drass.
Want a better circuit drass - padum - Leh.

1) How are you planning to do it ???
2) There's no route like Drass-Padum-Leh. Currently Padum-Darcha track is nothing more than a trekkable trail. So you will have to come back to Kargil from padum and then onwards move towards leh.
3) Seems you know about the detour route from drass, bypassing kargil for Rangdum... If yes put up some details about condition of the road its start and end ???

Here is the source of detour from Drass.

I read somewhere, that there is a road from Padum to leh via Nimmo (the touching point on leh-kargil road). I am looking for more info on this road.

There's no road right now... Just a plan has been decided but nothing has started till date... Don't waste your time searching on newer routes...

Moreover I didn't find any thing in the links you posted... But nonetheless I have confirmed about Drass-Sankoo (Kargil Bypass, saves some 30kms) from Kargil Tourist Office... But in some stretches blastings are still on and hence at times people trying to take a short cut, actually loose couple of hours more...
