Jullay to all!
Firstly, sorry if you've already come across or already answered a similar post in the past. I tried searching on this forum but couldn't find any conclusive answers. I would need your opinions and suggestions on the below: I would be in Ladakh, traveling alone for about 6-8 days in September/October. I am 31, male, moderately fit (weight-train everyday) and a complete beginner in trekking. I contacted a few trek organizers in India, and also searched on the internet for short trekking options. I figured out that leaving aside a couple of days for acclimatization, the best options for me would be either Spituk to Stok or the Sham valley treks. Now, those that have already undertaken these treks, I would need your feedback on the difficulty levels, weather and terrain during these months or any other important aspects of these treks. Also, feel free to tell me downright, which one in your opinion should I choose, and why. Would also appreciate if you can share any contact details or guide me towards choosing a honest trek-services provider. Many Thanks! Last edited by fernandesfran : Aug 28th, 2009 at 19:51. Hi,
If you are an alone traveler then its a very good trek(maximum4 days ) but my advice would be reach the place first and talk to local guides(I took the help of K2 adventures near Leh palace). Secondly its not at all a difficult trek unless you follow all the instructions given by guide. |

Thanks for the advice friend. Any idea on the amount I should expect to spend on the 4 day trek?

You didn't specify whether you are going to take help or go by map directions yourself.Neway If u carry your own tents, cooking material and other misc stuff, the total cost is 1200-1500 for a four day trek.(i did for Marka valley -Hemis-Marka -spituk)
BUT If u plan to do with the help of traveling guide (who arranges each little thing) the cost is 1800-2000 per person per day i.e straightaway 7-8k. |

As this is my first trip to that place, I would prefer to have everything arranged by an agency.
One other thing, the agency I contacted informed me that the weather would be around 10-20 degrees Celcius in November. I was hoping for snow around that time :-)) Thanks! |
