Stok Kangri around June 1 (and other q's)

Hi there,

I was thinking of hitting Leh from Dehli around May 26, hanging around there for 2-3 days (including a visit to Khardung La), then taking 4-5 days to ascend Stok Kangri.

If feasible, I'd have a few more questions, but first, I'd like to understand if it is possible to do this at all (given the time of the year and the fact they I'm flying in from Dehli and only plan to spend 2-3 days between Leh and Khardung La to acclimatize.

Thanks for your help!

Peter

Thanks, let me clarify my questions:

(1) I basically wanted to know if there is too much snow to climb Stok Kangri at the end of May for a moderately experienced mountaineer.

(2) My second question was, if a total of 7-8 days from Dehli to the top of Stok Kangri (with 2-3 days in Leh) is too short to acclimatize properly and would expose me to serious health risks.

Please let me know if I should further clarify.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Hi there...

Acclimatization period is more than fine...

The problem is the amount of snow and the still uncertain weather till mid-June or so...

While it is certain that there will be snow at Stok Kangri, the quantum might be a problem... The weather can turn bad anytime, and the peak is fine for amateur climbers July onwards... Mind you, I've known people who were caught in a blizzard while ascending Stok Kangri and they had to quit just 500 meters short of the summit...
And that was in mid-July...!

Wouldn't like to get into that situation, would you...?

Best wishes...

Cheers...!
