Sleeping bags / Bedding in Ladakh

Do we need to carry sleeping bags with us for places like

1) Hunder

2) Spangmik (ECO hut)

3) Karzok

we plan to spend the nights in guest house or homestays (economical)

will they provide us with blankets ?

we were trying to see if we need to carry 1.5kg worth of sleeping bags with us or not ?

Thanks

At Hunder if you're having a hotel stay, then they'll provide everything...

Eco Huts as far as i recall dont have those facilities. That you'll have to manage.

Korzok, again some of the homestays would be having blankets etc.

If you are a stickler for hygiene etc, it'd be a good idea to carry that 1.5kgs with you

I will soon be travelling to Ladakh, and I intend to carry the extra weight of a sleeping bag, small tent and bivi bag.

Better to be prepared and its only a few kilos extra to carry.

Will be riding an Enfield....

Hi Mike,

I'd check my itinery first. IF you are covering all places where you'll find hotels etc AND planning to stay in them... doesnt make sense carrying a tent... unless you specifically plan on camping..!!

However, finally, it's your call

Will have more scope and freedom and the're both are only a few kilos in weight.

I will however make the final decision when my bag is packed and weighed

Thanks for your input and advice. always good to have other opinions.

The advantage I have is that all my stuff is lightweight.

That is until I pack it and look at the bulk.

I do agree, the first thing to go will be the tent. then the extra clothing. The bulkiest items are my jacket, overtrousers and riding boots, but they stay....

Thanks Guys for your input, I guess we will go without it (anyways we have our thermals incase things go bad .

Mike Cork : Well there is another option of hiring them at Leh - if required rather than lugging it across. but then our equipment is more hygienic that rented.

Hiya...

Everything is available at Leh...

Every second shop in Leh turns into a Travel Shop during the season... No point lugging even an extra 100 grams if its avoidable, especially if you plan to go trekking... And if you are planning to go high altitude trekking, hygiene is usually the last thing that crosses one's mind...!

What I did was to keep my Leh hotel as a base... I actually stayed there thrice during my two week trip to Ladakh... Each time, I left out the big bag and carried my stuff which was required for the shorter trips for the trek and elsewhere... And I did take a sleeping bag and a mattress on rent...

Do check out :
Ladakh in 5 Days...???!!! (Or 6 or 7 or 10 or 15...!!!)

Cheers...!

This is what I normally carry when I travel around UK and Europe on my bike.

Best to travel light.
