Shingo La passable?

Does anyone know the status of the Shingo La? I'm trekking into Zanskar from Darchu next week and have been told that it hinges on whether or not the Shingo La is free of snow. Apparently if it is, the other passes on the trek should be doable. Thanks!

June to early for Shingo La! This is an August trek. Other passes tougher. Where are you now?

Shingo la is probably never free of snow. The right question is: is the trail broken through. Since it is used by Zanskaris as well as many trekking groups it should be broken quite early. Why would it be an August trek? What is wrong with July or September?

Yes it is never free of snow. When does the trail break is indeed the issue. However, various access points make the trek possible in July. And August is the best and safest time where one is guaranteed no problem. Technically June to Oct is possible. This year for example, snow melt has begun very very late.
