Leh is getting some traffic (no buses) from Manali according to my contact there. I am driving on the night of the 5th from Delhi. I hope the road clears for normal traffic by then.

I´m not suggesting anything here beyond that the road isn´´t busworthy , obviously vehicles must have been able to make it to Leh after the statements of SK Doon of the GREF. As always there are some jeeps etc making it across before the official opening. The added layer of confusion here is two official sources saying opposite things.Sorry for my previous sloppy on my way to the job post adding to it.

Thx for the advice Anil. I ll try to do this one and post some pictures when I m back. If there are clear skies in the night, will try to do some astro photography as well. A different perspective for Sangla which I didn't find in many pictures on the net. All the best for ur Leh trip...

i personally believe sangla to kalpa and back i.e. one day visit is though not impossible but certainly not meaningful. considering road conditions the drive will take about 3 hours one way. (though it is only 51kms). ideally you may consider the option of staying one night (last night) in kalpa and reduce one day at sangla in stead of retrning onthe same day and carry on your tour plan onwards therefrom. It will give u an advantage of enjoying morning beauty of kalpa.
Yeh, I was wondering if I could give Kalpa a skip this time and spend four days around Sangla. How about a trip to Sarahan & back to Sangla in a day? Is it worthwhile?

..came back from Manali on 21st.. Rohtang to Koksar stretch is in bad condition.. try to make it during the early hours...as the BRO bulldozers are in full swing to clear the snow off the roads...Kunzum La was closed, since v wanted to ride till chandertal, however, the road was closed a lil further from Gramphoo.. From Koksar to keylong is a an easy strech.. cant say much about the conditions after Keylong

Hmm, then with Kapla & Sarahan dropped, we have 5 days and 4 nights in Sangla only. One day for Chitkul, one day trek from Rackchan to Basteri. Any other recommendations. As I m traveling with young kids, can't do some very demanding. Also try to see if I can shift one day to Kalpa. Have already paid for the place in Sangla.
