agents

I never recommend agencies, but if time is of critical essence, give your work to an agency who will door deliver your permit within three hours for some 200 rupees.

Some IMers were planning to send advance faxes and photographs to agencies and get the permits issued on the same day that they touch Leh.

If time is so important, try it out.

People have also succeeded in getting ILPs on their OWN the same day without agents greasing the conveyor belt.

Take your pick

You would have to reach Leh early on Friday to get the permits done on time.

DC office closes by 4pm and its always crowded. I would suggest you to contact some agency who could get you the permits before you reach in order to not waste time. You need to fax your documents thats all.

As long as the Bullet is in good shape, shouldn't be an issue.

Okay, well in that case get your self a custom made carrier which would do the job. Also buy custom saddle bags from Delhi [would cost a couple of grands over all] remember to get poly cover or water protection for your luggage.

In our previous tours, loads of Bullets had done it with a pillion along. Last year, i tested one of the new models of bullet from Delhi to Leh and back to review it. I always carry all these and have it, if in case you do not get one till the last moment, contact me I will lend you my stuff or take you to places where you may get them done.

- Regards,
Faiyaz

Best option is to get the saddle bags from Cramster, but if the luggage is more than what you can stuff into them, then get the luggage racks installed. It would increase the weight, but would give enough space to carry backpacks.

If you are not getting it there in Mumbai, you have no other choice but to visit Delhi for a Day, get the stuff ... and move on.

regarding the permits..
i think this whole thing is overhyped. i just returned yesterday from an out of the world leh-ladakh trip and getting the permit costed me 20 rupees (80 for some places). and the time taken was preciously 20 mins. i am not too sure about 4 pm closing on fridays and sat sun being off since i got it at around 10.30 am on friday.
The permits are issued free of cost to tourists, however the 20 rupees (or 80) charged are given towards wild life preservation, which i think is a fantastic concept.
I met a lot of people when i travelled. I even encountered myself.
