Public bus - Manali to Leh
Public bus - Manali to Leh
I was planning on taking public bus to Leh
at the bus station the guy at the enquiry desk tells me there is only a public bus to Keylong. from there I have to get a private bus.
IS this bullshit?
If not, how easy and expensive is it to get on a private bus at keylong?
thanks in advance

He is telling the truth, basically from Manali a bus is run to Keylong and from Keylong you can get another bus from HRTC (government) to Leh. Alternatively you can try and get the JKSRTC bus to Leh or as mentioned above, an HPTDC one, which is going to be more expensive than the other two options.

Yes. HRTC buses run Manali-Keylong (Rs. 109 ) , Keylong-Leh (Rs 460 ).. or any combination thereof. I´ve jumped off in Sissu twice. The fancier HPTDC buses ( which only run the "safe" part of the season , are running now) go Manali-Keylong , overnight stay , Keylong-Leh the next day : Rs. 1600 including breakfast & the night in Keylong. There are also a lot of private mini-buses and shared jeeps in the same price bracket , fare only.

You can´t pre-book from Manali or Keylong , I just went down to the bus station one hour before. Then the usual wait : they don´t sell any tickets until they see that the bus has made it in to Keylong.
Recong Peo - Kaza and Kaza to Keylong - Public buses
Anyone know of public bus services between Peo and Kaza and from Kaza to Keylong? I could locate public buses between Peo to Kaza but nothing shows up for intervening places like Nako, Tabo, Puh etc, though i am sure as there is ony one road one can always ask the driver to stop at those place..I have already seen the HP road transport corp website. Any help greatly appreciated.

I got my ticket on the morning half an hour before. there was an indian family who booked the night before getting some of the best seats.
When you buy a ticket the seats ARE allocated (from keylong to leh - not from Menali to Keylong)
SO if possible ask for good ones. My opinion the best ones are behnd the front door on the left - leg room, window and quick to get off bus. Plus essentially, near the front.
The bus was not full so I moved around a few times

Thanks Vistet and Tommohawk. How many hours is the journey from Peo to Keylong and from Keylong to Leh?
Well for us it turned out two days between Keylong and Leh , with a night break in Pang : Maggi in the tents for the rest of us , and oxygen served by the Army medic in the first aid post ..
This is the second time I´ve been forced to a unplanned stop in Pang , giving exact hours is a bit misleading , no run is the same. Keylong-Leh starts around five in the morning , arrives in Leh in the evening ... most of the time. Optimistic timings you can find on the HRTC site , sometimes they actually come true.
Peo-Keylong will take a couple of days : I broke off the journey in Tabo , if you do a long haul you can make it to Kaza , next long leg Kaza-Keylong.
