I actually dont mind. But this is like a truly big fancy 5 star hotel just recently opened. http://www.thegranddragonladakh.com/ here you go, the website of the hotel. Fancy prices but not too bad for 3 days!!!

Tashis , the Montessori and the small place near ( opposite side ) SBI are some of the eatiries that are open all year.

The general store , near the mosque end of the bazaar street , is my favorite shop : first you only see the paint , chicken wire etc and then you start to notice the prayer flags , khataks sold from rolls , yarkhandi style tea pots ..

Confirmed for 24th - 30th December 2009

Hi,

Just got my tickets for the dates. Cannot wait to be back in Ladakh. Stayed with a wonderful family run Guest house in September this year. They have agreed to host me

If you are still going and dates coincide we could travel together...

Some pics from my last trip...

I've lived in Ladakh for many winters. Many restaurants, guesthouses and hotels stay open through the winter, so no worries there, though there won't be as much choice as in the summer. The guesthouses offer room heating for extra charge, though of course the luxury Grand Dragon (not really 5-star but really far and above the next most luxurious place in Ladakh) is beyond that range. All guesthouses can offer at least a hot bucket.

There are flights every day all winter. The roads into and out of Ladakh are closed all winter.

Enjoy people .. Leh in December is great (if you like chilly chilly chilly winters ... I do by the way) .... You can go to Lamayuru too by road .. and the main December attraction there will be chadar trek .. though costly but once in a lifetime experience

Don´t expect the chaddar trek to be an option in this time period , daytime temperatures are above zero often in to December , so the ice is not to be trusted.
