Depends on how much time you have...
Fly: you can get on a plane from Jammu, chandigarh or Srinagar. You have trains for Jammu from Pathankot and busses for Chandigarh. By Road: For this you'l have to get to one of the two entry points to Ladakh: Srinagar or Manali. Manali will be closer to Pathankot..you can get a bus to Manali (driect bus I doubt!!!) but you can go Dharmshala (McLeoadganj) and spend some tiem there and then onto Manali from there. From Manali you can get Buses and Shared 4x4 Jeeps. But as of today..the Manali-Leh route is not open... So if you are not going to hit Manali till end May...better you fly one way and while returning come by Bus to manali from leh.

Perfect time to travel in that region...you can go by road from Manali.
Also if you have time..try to venture into spiti valley from Manali. Off topic: Nothing like having your morning coffee/tea..sitting in front of green and yellow mountains of Ladakh... While replying I was having my coffee..and was remebering Ladakh..Hmmmmm Kohi Nomimashita ka? |

Why not go from Ptk to the Chamba valley (3hr taxi) and then do the Kugti pass trek over the Pir Pinjal, which brings you out near Keylong and then get a bus or taxi from there. Manimahesh Travels in Chamba have a good reputation as a trekking agency. Apparently the Chamba valley is somewhat sheltered fromthe monsoon and the wild flowers in July are amazing. I will be there in the first week of July.

Done this trip back in 95
Patankhot by train to jammu then bus to Srinigar Get a house boat on the lake ...and chill ...really beautiful and realxing then take bus to Ladakh ...most amazing journey I''ve done in india ...do your thing in Ladakh then take the bus to manali again the most amazing journey ever...flying would be faster but never as inspiring ....Try and spend some of the journey on the roof ... Going this route will also help in your acclimatisation Spend some time in Manali or Naggar further on after Manali or go up parvati ...then on to Delhi You'll need to research the details but I found this route amazing BTW passing through the tunnel into the kashmir valley is simply awe inspirting ...Enjoy Bryan
